When I went to rate this series in the polls (on this website), I found myself pretty much putting 50% for everything. There have definitely been moments that have made me cringe, like the whole power of 2 theme and the witch craft, but there still is a pretty good “Star Wars” vibe with the whole series. It feels a little more risky than Disney has usually been with their series, and I think getting to see the workings of a fully formed Jedi Order and lurking Sith Lord is quite interesting. In fact that was the only category, “Meaningful Addition to Star Wars”, that I gave more than 65% -> I feel like we’ve seen glimpses of this type of era of Jedi in the video games (the Jedi Order in power, and the Sith trying to work in the shadows building power), but it’s interesting to see a cinematic interpretation of it. I do feel concerned about how the Stranger and his rule of two ambitions will incorporate with the legacy that resulted in Darth Sidious. I worry that they might overlook the fact that there needs to be a line of Sith contributing the Force knowledge and cunning that ultimately resulted in Sidious successfully taking power for the Sith as a whole (in my eyes the ultimate goal of the Rule of Two, mind you not the “power of two” silliness). Finally, I have my concerns with the power struggle being depicted between the Jedi and the Sith. While a true Sith Lord should be capable of making the general population of Jedi look rather silly in combat etc., I don’t feel like enough credit has been given to Qimir to establish him as powerful as he his in taking out like 7 jedi with relative ease. I think the situation can be remedied with further comments about the jedi’s arrogance, or Qimir’s training, etc., but even then I would like more credit given to the jedi. Someone who is taken as a child and trains literally for 25 plus years to be an expert in the force and swordsmanship shouldn’t be cut down like a sapling in my opinion… unless there is a really good reason, especially when it is like 7 on 1. So overall, I think Disney has made some progress with this show and it is still a fairly interesting watch, but just difficult to feel entirely happy about the series at the moment!
