Kinyen was an agriworld located in the galaxy’s Expansion Region, on a junction with the Corellian Trade Spine and the Great Gran Run. It was the original homeworld of the Gran species. Malastare , which was colonized by Gran hundreds of years before the Imperial Era, was also considered a homeworld of the Gran.

The planet was notable for its many peaceful farming settlements, such as the Kemalo Farming Cluster. Their bountiful produce was sold and distributed to many parts of the galaxy, including Batuu.
